I Sound Like A Really Nice Person Well we all do in theory don�t we? At the moment I�m calling prospective people for a job we advertised. We have a system, my Melbourne boss calls them for a phone interview then forwards the good ones resumes up to us. My Sydney boss sorts the ones he thinks would be good and then gives them to me to set up the formal interviews in the office. Then he interviews them. So I don�t really get to see these prospective people and get really surprised a week or so later when a new person turns up to the office. One person I spoke to this afternoon was disappointed to hear that she wouldn�t be meeting me at the interview on Monday �because you sound like such a nice person�. Obviously she�s not aware that we have a system. It�s kinda weird though don�t you think? She sounded all sad when I said that I wouldn�t see her at the interview and then she called back to ask if I could fax through the job description to her at home and then asked again if she�d see me at the interview. I said I suppose when reception called through to say that she was there I could come up and meet and greet. I don�t think anyone has ever described me as sounding like such a nice person before so I�m understandably confused. Maybe it was because I joked a little, made the conversation casual instead of my usual �Good afternoon, I have a pole up my butt� tone of nasal-ness. I�m not really that nice am I? Say it ain�t so!
