Singapore Trip: Day Five The Wedding Part I

We were picked up from our hotel by Vandas friends at 8am and they drove us to Uncle James and Auntie Alices place (Vandas parents) where the first part of the wedding would take place. Being in real estate and having never seen an apartment in Singapore before I, of course, had to assess the apartment. It was big. For the same square meterage in Sydney youd get a small two bedder with a wanky media space. This was a large 3 bedroom apartment (bedrooms were all bigger than the ones in my parents house) with an eat-in kitchen (again bigger than my parents one), a laundry and a decent sized bathroom. How is this possible you ask? Its all about not having a hallway. Screw corridors they are a waste of space! All the bedrooms, the bathroom and the kitchen spawned off the lounge/dining room and...oh right, the wedding. Hehehe.

So Vanda was sitting all ready in her bedroom and her friends, relatives and photographers were milling around all offering last minute advice and whatnot. Edward was to arrive with his henchmen (sorry, attendants. The first Austin Powers was on TV last night and my speech is yet to adjust, baby) and basically the idea was he had to bargain with Alice at the front gate of the entrance hall (it was barred and had a padlock and everything) about how much he was to pay for Vanda. Quite funny really. They finally settled on a price (S$28) provided that Edward and his henchmen sang a song as well. Seeing as they were in the church choir this wasnt an issue. The song done he was granted entrance to the receiving hall where his friends pushed him through the front door and towards Vandas bedroom.

He was stopped by the girls and Wynnie (Vandas sister) informed him that he and his henchmates would have to do a boy band formation dance to a song she put on the stereo. This consisted of leg shuffling and limited arm movements towards the door. Pretty damn funny! After knocking on her door hopefully he was told that he had to compose a poem before gaining entrance. The first was very unoriginal (Roses are red etc) and the bride called out through the door Unoriginal! Do another one!. He needed help to compose the second poem but it got him through the door!

There was much laughter and cheering and I thought what a great way to start a wedding. Everyone is happy and full of humour instead of nervous and getting stressed. When/If I get married I want it to start off like that. More wedding stuff tomorrow.
