Ironman Legends, Present and Past This year was the 21st year that my Dad did the Ironman Triathlon. He's been an Ironman legend since he did it ten times but we're just as proud of him every year. This year however was different. Dad did his race and he did it well, but one of his mates didn't make it. Greenie was an incredibly fit man, an Ironman legend, he was doing his fifth Ironman in just 12 months and during the swim leg he had a heartattack. It took them a while to get to him and it was 20 minutes before they revived him. But although his heart was beating he wasn't going to make it. The lack of oxygen was too much. He was a quiet man, a generous man, a wonderful friend and a terrific husband to his wife, Pam. He was remembered last Friday at one of the biggest funerals I've ever seen. He may have been a man of few words, but over 400 people knew and loved him and turned up to say goodbye. Farewell Greenie, Legend #131 forever Tyd |
