Last Tuesday she pulled out an abdominal binder (which I had read about) and discussed perenial massage which...well if you are really interested you can google it.

Then she whipped out this.

It actually says Birth Tonic on the bottle. Too funny. It smells like a compost heap and it's the colour of "poo water" as The Sexy put it. It's recommended that you mix it with water or juice (the midwife strongly suggested juice, in fact she told me to cross out the word water on the bottle). All in all, it looks a lot worse than it tastes. To me it tasted a lot like an extremely strong vodka and orange.

It contains all these herbs and extracts I've never heard of but one tones the uterus and gets it ready for labour and another one of the ingredients is beneficial in preventing haemorrhaging (if you are predisposed to such a thing in childbirth - my Mum was so it follows that I could also be). I am willing to try anything that'll reduce possible complications - after all a homebirth is about being comfortable in your home environment!
