Will That Be Cheque Or Giant Bag of CASH?

Im in the business where people like to give cash deposits. Small ($1-5K) deposits. I say small, cause well lets face it, its not like its $66,500 or anything! So potential purchasers either give us a cheque or a small cash deposit to hold a property for them until the contracts exchange (it goes unconditional).

I got a call from one of the site people who usually does drive-bys whereby he drives past the entrance to our building and hands me something through the car window and I take it upstairs. He sounded mobile so I asked if it was a drive-by. He said no, he really ought to bring this up. Its $66,500...in CASH! Cold, hard (well soft and plastic-y), CASH! Holy fricking cow! Theyd already counted it twice down at the sales office. What type of person carries that type of cash if youre not a) a drug dealer, b) a drug dealer or c) a drug dealer?

Then of course we had to count it again here at Head Office to make sure that the sales manager hadnt pilfered some of it whilst on route from the sales office. Not that we think he would, its just procedure. So I called Trust to warn them that I was bringing up a huge bag of cash. It took her two times to fully understand that I was talking $66,500 in CASH. I think from now on the word CASH will only be typed in capital letters. I honestly got light-headed just holding the bag and looking at the green and gold goodness inside. All I can say is thank goodness they didnt give it to us in two-dollar coins. That would have been insane...and we probably would have refused. So it was in 50s and 100s thankfully. Still took three of us about five minutes to count it all.

Then I took the CASH up to Trust so they could bank it. It garnered a fair bit of interest. I did offer to get one of the big fellas to escort her but she said shed be fine. Lets hope so. Just as I typed that last sentence I got a call from the Trust lady who was at the bank. They want to charge $166.00 to bank all that CASH. That seems a bit extreme. Oh well.

I could have bought 500 shoes with that money, and hired a Millers storage shed to put them in :o)
